How much space and bandwidth will you recommend for a new website hosted on your server ?

For a relatively new website you need very less amount of space and bandwidth, you might need more space if you are going to include images or flash.

For a new website you should opt for the basic hosting packages of any host like the basic plan of webhosting UK and choose the host that allows you to easily upgrade your hosting package.

For a personal website I think 100MB space and 1GB bandwidth would be more than enough at the begining and later on you may upgarde the package as per your needs.

I think for a personal site 100MB disk space & 1GB of Bandwidth is more than enough but you should look for a hosting provider who will offer you upgradation easily when needed.

Yep, you're better off starting low and going high. There's not much point paying out for 10Gb of bandwidth when you don't know if it will even get to 1 in a month.

If you do some quick calculations, 1Gb of bandwidth in 30 days = 33megs a day. That's a fair amount to use up every single day.

That should do you just fine until the site starts to take off, then you can extrapolate the usage to work out how much you will need to buy next......and then add a bit more

Default more than enough

Thats more than enough. i think u won't use that much bandwith. Its cheap and u can use it and don't worry about over bandwith if its a personal website.
