UK Reseller Hosting FAQ's

First of all hello! I'm new to reseller hosting and plan on making this my home for some time to come.

I am going to be uploading a site, " esphotography.co.uk " that is very large. It is about 1 gig in size and contains 104,000 files. I read somewhere that compressing it into a zip then uploading that then uncompressing it would be an efficiant way to upload it. The qestion is would this put a larger strain on the server as even though it would be a smaller upload it would have to use CPU and file system resources on unzipping it?

Also I have been giving the following name servers:

ns11.redbackinternet.co.uk : 87.117.236.214
ns12.redbackinternet.co.uk : 87.117.236.215

When I tried to point my domain name to them it said it couldn't find them. I tried a whois search and couldn't find them on that either. Are they newly registered and not on available just yet?

Finally after requesting a change to a PHP 5 server I have been moved to this one: 87.117.236.214 Having read about the advantages of the servers in the London datacenter in this thread I would like to check if my server (in Durham) is not at a disadvantage.

Hello John,

Your account has been setup on a new server which was activated last night and the nameservers were registered yesterday. Your account was first on the server so probably the nameservers didn't respond when you tried but now I have refreshed DNS on the server so it should respond now.

This new server is in London and not in Durham. We don't have anything better than 10 Mbps in Durham while the datacenter in London has 15 Gbps network and each server gets Minimum 100 Mbps.

I hope you will enjoy hosting on this server as the configuration of server is far better than our old servers.
