What is the advantage of getting hosted and paying extra for a dedicated ip?

Dedicated IPs give websites the ability for complex hosting and offer more flexibility and more control over their search engine results.

A dedicated IP address is needed for anonymous FTP access or if you need something like SSL. Beyond that there really isn't a need. Dedicated IPs are also rumoured to have some form of search engine benefit, but I haven't seen this personally.
