Default All about Web Design

If you're a designer/developer what do you think are the top five things that you would like your clients to know before they start talking to you about work? And if you're not a designer then what would your top five tips be to people thinking of getting a site?

Personally my top five would involve:

clients having a rough idea of how they would like the site to look before we start (even if that's just 'I like yellow' or 'Can you make it look like someoneelsessite.com');

clients understanding that what works in print doesn't necessarily work on the Web;

clients understanding that it's a collaborative process i.e. they don't get to see you once and then you turn up a week later with everything done;

clients writing their own copy. Especially small businesses. I have no idea about widget making and I don't want to have to learn; and

clients appreciating that launching a site is only part of making it work.

I think a designer/developer should carefully balance a variety of factors that include relevance, timeliness, amplitude, perfectionism and articulated goals of the project considering client’s market situation and his project budget, IMO most of the designers feel insecure these days not because of any craft exercise but probably lacking behind some features that shape their designing skills as per clients perspective.

Can't say I've ever met an insecure designer - the one thing those arty types seem to have in abundance is confidence Cheers for the points though.

Most of the time I find myself writing such things that do not necessarily apply, but I feel perhaps it will touch some one and possibly that will help somebody, Lets face it a while there is no design Bible.
