Default Microsoft's Web Expression

Frontpage is gone. Here comes Microsoft's Web Expression. It has a very good review. Indeed the hype claims that Dreamweaver finally found its match. Do you agree? I have yet to use this web development tool.

I've used it when it was in beta and we trialled it in work. It is a huge improvement on Frontpage and generates pretty clean code. The design view was more accurate than DW MX2005 and I suspect that the same will be true for CS3. It suffers from the same problems as DW or any WYSIWYG editor though so you're still better off using an IDE or a text-editor and getting your hands dirty with some lovely lovely code.

I tried to have a look on this but the free trial has been already expired in feb, btw one drawback I see that it runs only on Windows XP the older hardware and sofware can’t use it at all. Few of my designer friends told it's just another WYSIWYG editor, one more questions, btw who is going to need a web designer anyway?

Well there's more to Web design than creating a Web site. I can code you a Web site but I wouldn't describe myself as a Web designer because I'm no designer.

Expression doesn't run on versions of Windows older than XP but if you're going to be spending cash buying a WYSIWYG editor then you're not likely to be running 98.

Well done Kev, most certainly a triumph, but I would like to point out that i think Expression doesn't run on versions of Windows older than XP but if you're going to be spending cash buying a WYSIWYG editor then you're not likely to be running 98

*wipes tears from eyes* rofl but the point is Jon I can code you a Web site but I wouldn't describe myself as a Web designer because I'm no designer. This has turned into my favourite thread ever.

It may work for you one or two off solutions but they limit you later to depend on their tech for the future and also I don't see its expansion beyond the ASP.net users frame so dreamweaver is much better at the moment, IMO.

I take your point Paul but I hasten to add that it may work for you one or two off solutions but they limit you later to depend on their tech for the future and also I don't see its expansion beyond the ASP.net users frame so dreamweaver is much better at the moment, IMO.

However, I've used it when it was in beta and we trialled it in work. It is a huge improvement on Frontpage and generates pretty clean code. It suffers from the same problems as DW or any WYSIWYG editor though so you're still better off using an IDE or a text-editor and getting your hands dirty with some lovely lovely code.

The downside is: if you are still using Win98 then i don't believe it will work

couldn't resist..sry

Well as this is my 1000th post I'm glad it is in what is now officially my favourite ever thread. Thanks Jon.

And you're right Expression doesn't run on versions of Windows older than XP but if you're going to be spending cash buying a WYSIWYG editor then you're not likely to be running 98.
