I guess my post is directed at Kev but also to anyone else who has experience in Flex or flash in general.
I downloaded flex trial to have a look. What concerns me (mainly though lack of knowledge) with all flash web sites whether using Flex, Flash or even something like Swish, is SEO, or to put it another way, creating a site using swf files in relation to how they are ranked within search engines. For instance; what would be the best way to create an entire site which is driven by flash files? more specifically, how would the search engines read links? OR Is the best solution to only use flash on part of your page and have the standard html link and text??? What confuses me is looking briefly as Flex, you could create a shop if you wanted, but how would googlebot for instance be able to crawl through it? Any thoughts? |

Anything made in flash will be ignored by search engine spiders. last year we added one flash banner on our homepage and our rankings dropped.
If you are badly in need of flash then embed it in php,asp or html but making index page in flash will keep your website in sandbox.

I did make a site in flash once and binned it for that reason. On the subject of Flex, does this software find a way around this problem?
My first thoughts are that it looks really good and maybe worth time spent getting to learn a bit about it, and then purchasing it, but don't really have the time or the room in my head to focus on another project if it is not going to be worthwhile. |
