You will be able to take back-up of entire blog - entries, comments, etc by using "dump" command of MYSQL, if you have choosen MYSQL as your database for your blog entries.

You can also backup your Wordpress database using phpMyAdmin. It is a PHP script used for interacting with database. Generally control panels, such as cPanel and Plesk, have phpMyAdmin pre-installed.

Here is the link to guide you how to back up your files..

codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

I'd probably do this sometime. I depend on wordpress to run my site. I was worried of changing to a new host because of this, but back-up and saving of files can be done anyway. So it's a good thing.

Files can be downloaded using a FTP software or backup feature in cpanel and database backup can be downloaded from phpmyadmin or cpanel backup section.

It wont take more than few minutes whichever method you follow. I prefer server to server Rsync transfer to ensure 100% data transfer.
