Default Why Java is called Java?

While searching the site of java world I came across this intersting release about the brainstorming the trade mark for Java; javaworld.com/jw-10-1996/jw-10-javaname.html

Very interesting! I think the name Java was certainly a better choice among others like DNA, Silk, Ruby, Lyric, Pepper, NetProse, Neon and WRL.

English - Albanian
Week - Java

Albanian - English
Java - ? -We can easly remember "Java" name.

Interesting.

I beleive Javascript used to be called "LiveScript" but it was doing horribly, so it was renamed at the last moment to Javascript to make people beleive it was similar to Java, which was doing very well at the time.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I have heard that Coffee is also called as Java in US. It might be possible that someone knew this, liked the name and suggested it. I am not too sure about this but I think this could be the reason that Java is called as Java

Thats right, in the United States, the term "Java" by itself is slang for coffee generally. The actual reason behind this though is it is named for the island of JAVA in Indonesia, one of its chief exports is the Coffee Bean.
