Default Engineer Resumes

The always brilliant Rands has an articleon what makes a good resume for software engineers.

It's a very individual view but if you are ever in the job market it's interesting to read about one person's mental process as they read through a CV.

Both very interesting articles.
I must admit they have left me a little confused. I was always taught to keep it simple, no fancy fonts, colours or images. Make it easy to read, well laid out and use a font that prints, copies and faxes well, something like Arial.
Working on that basic, it is difficult to create a cv that 'stands out' from the rest.
I guess times have changed, I see a lot of companies now request passport photos as well.
I think I may have to redesign my cv, it needs updating anyway. I have always used the conventional left column for headings, time for a change!

I think Rands is probably right in suggesting that you only need something subtle to make your CV stand out a little - maybe just a non-standard font would do the trick.
