Although this is solved again today, 2 days in a row I have had one client call me to report he is unable to access websites and mail upon my vps.
Yesterday I spoke on chat and this was resolved by Alec and then again today I spoke to Scott M who again after explaining my client had done a tracert which bombed out at the node, he explained he had changed the order of the dns resolvers for this node. (I hope it now stays that way) Whilst it is often difficult to diagnose these issues with our clients, I have posted here to show what CAN happen. And to remind us all that to get your own IP (or a client's) visit www.whatsmyip.com to determine the ip and then get your client to open a command prompt and type in tracert and the IP of your vps. Where is bombs completely is a great clue as to what is happening. |

Hi Ros,
You can also suggest your customers to send traceroute to their websites using the TCP Traceroute software. TCP Traceroute is much better than the traceroute which you send from your command prompt, as the normal command prompt traceroute is blocked by firewalls, while TCP Traceroute runs on TCP/IP level due to which it has no impact of Firewalls within the network. TCP Traceroute software can be downloaded from :- http://www.goheer.com/products/tcptraceroute/
