Probably you have missed this line there on msn news followed link as above; Google is going to "compete with traditional television as a viewing media. It also gives Google a massive trove of new ad-generating content, and allows it to offer a greater range of products to advertisers".

Another giant step by Google in trying to take over the online world. If Google does merge YouTube with it's own service Google Videos, then that would be the biggest online videos hub to date.
