The citizens of the US voted these idiots into office and they don't seem to have taken to the streets to get the bill overturned so I guess they must fell comfortable with it.

It's a cliche but eternal vigilance is the price of freedom and it's up to the individual in any country to watch what their representatives do and act accordingly. We can't be too supercilious in the UK when our own Government feels confident enough to legislate against basic human rights in the knowledge that they can justify their actions by spreading FUD through bogeymen like bin Laden.

Thanks for response, with due respect, probably you have missed there the link that state " With those facts assembled, it is fair to say that the Republicans are the party of torture, indefinite and unreviewable detention powers, and limitless presidential power, "even over U.S. citizens on U.S. soil". Most of the people are living in US from different country and origin including UK, even US has somewhat political pressure to most of the democratic countries, and few of them are standing on crossroads. The criminal treatment of the Iraqi people is recent example. BTW, we should honor the principles and values upon which our nation was founded, "democracy grows when democracy’s practiced".
