I suppose but you would have to have some fairly strong reasons for doing so when photo hosting sites aren't exactly rare.

Income from such file / photo hosting business is quite low and the server cost is quite high. My friend pays $5k per month for a very high specification server and he hardly makes profit of $1000 - $2000 from his file - photo hosting website.

Yeah that was my thought reallly - a crowded market with some big established players and low margins.

Please tell me how such(photo/image sharing) sites make money ? other then revenue from advertisement.

I think you'll find that pretty much all their revenue is from advertising.

5k for a server is really a lot, that's a huge sum of money.

many people pay that amount for servers. All US and UK Government websites hosted with Rackspace pay that kind of amount per server. big forums need Quad Xeons with 16 - 32GB RAM and bigger drives so they pay such big amount for servers without any hitch.
