Should I feel mortally wounded by the remarks of "harsh" or "aggressive", well actually no

My nickname is the rottweiler so draw your conclusions..My kids use me to sort out their problems

I do a mans job, I run a company (most think my other half started it) and when I get cross, I try to be polite but to the point.

My customers are mostly men and respect me immensly. I am included in all the dirty jokes (and do swop them with customers I have had for years) and because I have the respect (and they know I can solve complex stuff for them ) I can lay out the problem (once I know the extent, admin....) and get a solution with full agreement from my customer WITHOUT him getting out of his tree.

They only get out of their trees when I can tell them nothing

A woman in a mans world must be taken seriously, to do that I sometimes need to take the agressive line (just see the fob off lines people give) but what frightens people is that I can do it calmly or not depending on how much hassle is involved.

Whats more dear Admin I bet you are under 30 - I am well past that, been 21 twice and saving for the third time

I hope the dratsab who sent the attack dies painfully.....

And of course I am that sweet british babe, but dont forget we have a bitter side

Youth ?

Experience is what counts in this world.

I agree whole heartily with byteme - women have to be twice as good as men to get to the same place - and then they wonder why we are aggressive. We are merely taking a mans way and doubling it.

Got to go Hubby is dishing up dinner !!

Problems with hosting has over the last 3 months has made me work long hours too. However I started my business at 34 working 7days and sometimes 12 hours or more.

Youth is only a small percentage of the package.

Youth = lack of knowledge (be that technical, business acumen or personal)
- the fact that the young do not consider the consequences above their own level.

Age = knowledge and wisdom, confidence (because you know what to ask if you don't know), irritation (because others do not)

As I have said before knowledge is KING i.e. of the highest importance.

With knowledge you can do anything, but not to share it is a crime!

Absolutely wrong.

We have people working in our company who are in 30's, 40's and 50's and they are Junior to me. Its not just our office but I know many such companies where people on top most level are 15 - 30 years old. Management skills improve with age but Technical knowledge can never improve in late 40's. No matter how much you try but you wont be able to learn like those who can do in their 20's.

Everyone considers himself more Intelligent with age but they try to avoid any sort of challenge or Examination which can test their knowledge.

Tell me 1 reason why you think you are superior to me

Because your a noob and you know nothing about Linux / UNIX

I'm joking.. you obviously know more than me i don't even know why i'm inteferring into this thread.

People can't count themselves more superior than others. I started managing hosting when i was 15, as Andrew said.. i had 30 year olds working for me at the time. It's not the fact of age it's the positive fact on skills.

Such a positive aspect. Lets use Andrew and James as an instance to what i'm about to say. This is an example only.

Lets say James is 40 years old, he's got a few degree's. Andrew is 28, he has more degree's and qualifications than James. Andrew is more superior than others in the office for the basic fact that he is the main admin and all that shadizzle.

Most important thing that bothers me is what would be my position after 20 years.

I may not find it easy to understand new technology that would come after 20 years and competing with 20 year old guys wont be easy at that time.

You light weight

I am at my computer by between 8am to 9am most mornings and often still there at 1am to 2am in the morning. That is 7 days a week (self employed - no choice ) I usually take about 20 minutes off for dinner when hubby has cooked it and eat all other meals at my computer. When I am not at the computer I am packing orders or doing other paperwork - although that is normally on the computer. 3 times a week I spend an hour at the Gym..... God I really need to get a life

cassie, you need to get a life, it doesn't leave you much time for sex then lol

As to administrator:

I never said I was, just that youth over age is not always right. But to prove the point home, if you were my age, you would not even ask that question or be bothered to ask it

I was just pointing out with age you can still be smart (I now have to get used to the VPS so I need to learn) and if you continue to learn over time you never lose the ability to learn more. To think because you age you learn less is sad, I learnt to program in PHP and perl after turning 40 and have a business reputation of "if it can be done she will find a way" amongst my customers.

That is not to say I sometimes forget to do things, but they are rarely business issues, more personal stuff (forgot to pick up my daughter once at school hehe, she is now 22 and still reminds me)

I find that age has enabled me to understand quickly and has pushed me to believe you can make many things possible with the right information.

Young people in business often grab at the first solution and swear it is right, us oldies think before we jump cos we know it hurts if we land badly

Thats true in my case as well. Even our staff says same thing about me but now things are changing. They try to implement things before I get into those so now I feel more relaxed as I don't need to bother about technical problems.

I may not be the same Techie in future but no one can compete with me in Sales and Marketing and I keep on improving those skills so there wont be much for anyone to compete with me in long run. Most important thing that you need to be best in Sales is self belief

True once again

I may not manage to take same risks again in future which I took before 4 - 5 years as the burden of responsibilities is more now. Any sort of wrong decision can create problems for Dozens of people but these burden has made me more disciplined and my approach to things has changed completely.

That reminds me of the elderly who wish to be intelligent, no matter how many courses they take it always fails
