Changing keyboard layout in Ubuntu server

How do I change keyboard layout in Ubuntu server, I only have shell access to my server. Please advice.

There are several ways to get this job done.
For me simplest trick is to edit the respective configuration file.

Try to edit the following file in pico editor [vim is not installed by default]

/etc/default/console-setup

find the following value in the file as following.

XKBLAYOUT="gb"

You can set/edit the value of country code/standard layout

save the above file and check if the key strokes are responding to correct hit.
