Asterisk Web Server ?

First of all can any one please let me know what are Asterisk servers ? The other question which comes in to minds is it's a normal dedicated server hosting package with some different features ?

Asterisk servers are basically a dedicated web servers, in which the Asterisk application is installed for making that particular server as a communication server. It's also a web server where a server is know as a VoIP server

Asterisk is a application which is installed on the server, so you can use the server as Voice over Internet Protocol(VOIP) server. Installing Asterisk on the server will allow you to make voice calls over internet. So you can use the server for making calls.
