Semi-Dedicated or Dedicated Server ?
Hi,
I am currently on a VPS hosting account and its creaking at the seems - I could upgrade VPS but I think its time to move to a semi-dedicated or dedicated server...
Heres my dilemma, do i go for a Semi dedicated server at £50 per month or a dedicated server at £100 both include cPanel...
Anyhow help with the pro's and con's of each - apart from the obvious price difference.
I primarily use Mysql - and have 30 or so domains, with about 20 using Mysql...
Thanks
regards
Andy

Hi Andy,
Semi-dedicated server is a high specification VPS, it will still be on a shared node but with only 12 accounts per semi-dedicated server node.
I would recommend a dedicated server if you have many websites - you'll definitely not look back

I agree, if you have the financial funding, then not having to share system resources with anyone else seems the better option.
I guess it also depends whether you see your business growing in the future. If so then the dedi would be the way to go

It all depends on your web hosting requirements and budget. As Dan suggested Dedicated would the better option if your budget permits you else Semi-dedicated is not a bad option.

There would be other Semi-Dedicated servers hosted along with your account on same master node hence you would be sharing resources of master server mode which is not the case with dedicated servers. You would have full server resources if you opt for dedicated servers, only your account would be hosted on your server, no one other then you can use your server resource.

On both Linux hosting packages like semi-Dedicated or dedicated server you can host unlimited MySQL databases, domains, email accounts etc….

Thanks - all .
Looks like a financial decision at the end then.
I may initially go to semi-dedicated server and then move to dedicated server in future.
regards
Andy

Hi Andy,
If you are on tight budget, you can upgrade to semi-dedicated server and later you can move on to a dedicated server. We will take care of the data transfer.

IP's are related to each node, transferring your package from a VPS to a semi-dedicated server would involve you being assigned a new IP address; this is the same from moving to dedicated servers also.

shame.... so amending nameserver ips is a must, (if you use your own) and if you happen to have a good trusted ip address that say send newsletters that is whitelisted by the likes of hotmail and AOL you have to start again really.

You can't have same IP address if you move from VPS to a Semi-Dedicated or Dedicated Server, due to fact that VPS nodes have their own IP range which is different from dedicated servers which are placed in different racks.

Yes, you will have to update nameserver IPs, dont worry you would get new Fresh/Pure/trusted IPs
