This is the original system devised by Larry and Brin - fascinating work and some really revolutionary thinking.

That's cool man! It is pure mathematics and is certainly difficult to understand at the first go. May be I need to go back to High school to get a better understanding of the equations.(Lol)

Even if you understand it you're not going to understand how Google produces it's results - this algorithm is only the starting point and their technology has moved way beyond it now.

Yea right, Google keeps changing its algorithm for ranking purpose and some say that the algorithm is kept as secret with the Google insiders which webmasters fail to understand but yea the algorithm looks interesting here.

Not just the base algorithm. Google can do some pretty spooky stuff e.g. they can build up patterns of ownership even where domain records are marked as private. So if you own a number of sites, even of your ownership is not publicly listed, there's a good chance Google will know.

I'm surprised, never knew that Google keeps a track of the sites in this manner.

If I can find the article I read I'll let you have the link - it may have been on sitepoint.

Can't find a link to the original article and I read about in a Sitepoint newsletter. For those interested this is the copied text:

'Google Knows All About the Domains you Own

At the recent WebMasterWorld Pub Con get together, Matt Cutts (who is basically Google's link to the search engine world) reviewed some sites as part of a panel.

Cutts very quickly and easily ascertained that the owner of site A also owned sites B, C, D, E, F, G, etc. even though, apparently, many of these sites were registered using the Private Registration feature registrars offer.

While owning web sites that link together shouldn't be enough to devalue the links between sites -- the ranking should be about the quality of those sites -- I can't help but wonder if there wouldn't be an automatic red flag alerting Google of the relationship.

The lesson: if you're optimizing your site for search engines, the links from the other sites you own may not be as valuable as you think. At the very least, Google knows you own these other sites, and knows of the relationships between them. '

The lesson explains it all. Anyways Kev, thanks for getting this write–up here as it will help clear doubts of many who are related
to SEO and are unaware of this thing.

I have gone through site, it is having a good pr but you don't have much backlinks; just (2), for getting better rank you will have to work hard in getting more relevant high pr backlinks, update your content and other SEO stuff...
