backlink checker ?

When checking for backlinks we type " link:domainname.com " into the search box of google.
I think it don't shows all links pointing to our site, it just shows just some examples and when we use some third party tools such as " backlink_checker " from iwebtool then the result differs, why is it so ?

I suppose when you type in "link:domainname.com", you can view backlinks from Google only, while when you check for backlinks with the help of a tool, you can view backlinks from Google, Yahoo and MSN.

Yes Peter I agree with you as the results for one search engine and several search engines will be different. When you include more search engines in order to check backlinks it is natural to see more backlinks for the same.
