IMHO any online business will definitely will benefit most if follows search engines optimization techniques.

Website without optimization is like a product without advertisement. It is as good as not having a website.

You can drive more potential customers through optimizing your website for those best keywords, which customers are typing daily in search engine.

I don’t think google penalize for misspelled content, if your page or title is not fully stuffed with those.

Otherwise it would be consider as a garbage by google.

If you see Google and Yahoo too provide corrected words suggestion to user if he misspells while searching.

Misspelling common words, for example “computer” as “copmuter” doesn’t matter that much for a search engine

although you should take care to not to lose your customers by misspelling keywords or titles,

for example “affordable web hosting” as “affordable veb hotsing”.

I think there is hardly any company which does not want to benefit from the SEO.
SEO is not limited to a certain category, company or a product. It is applicable to all web sites. Even a “Not for Profit” company can get benefited by SEO where profit making is zero. IMO it is about reaching to a customer as soon as possible when he searches for a particular term. Let it be in terms of monetary gains or popularity, when it comes to SEO, anyone and everyone can benefit from it.
Misspelled words is a trick to attract more traffic to the site. However Google does not consider it to be a good practice and tries to auto correct search words.Content is the king and misspelled words reduce the quality of content.

Any company who is applying the techniques of SEO wants their company to be on the first page of the search engine, so practically if you see all the companies are benefited from the SEO techniques but i think companies who just totally depend on the Web such as the e-commerce companies, will benifit the maximum by applying the SEO techniques as the net is the sole ground for them to market their products or services.

About the spelling mistakes in Google or any other search engine i don't think there is a penalty for that because at the end of the day the content is your's so no one can penalise or edit the content as how its done in the wikis (editing). The thing which will matter is the reputation which you will carry through the website as it won't look professional in it's nature and people can assume it as any other low profile site eventually hampering the business and the flow of visitors.

There's no specific guideline mentioning the type of companies that benefit the most from search engine optimization techniques. If you have a website on the Internet, you need traffic on it and search engines account for a large chunk of Internet traffic. One important benefit of SEO is it is capable of delivering your website among the top ranked searched websites on the Internet. It is one of the best ways to advertise your site online.

Google might consider misspelled words as a black hat technique if you have large amount of mispelled words on a page. They probably use statistical analyzers, soundex and levenstains distance so that they can easily detect misspelled words. If you have just few i.e less than 4% of total page content and less than 5 mispelled words on the page it might not attract penalty but large amount of mispelled words may get your site deindexed for sure.

Mispelled content or titles can get your site penalized if used excessively. But using mispelled content and titles have no real benefit as your site would come up in the search results for a typo mistake of the visitor. Also if the keyword is spelt incorrectly, the search engines do notify the visitor by displaying the right spelling of that keyword, For example if you type 'web hotsing' by mistake instead of 'web hosting', you will get a message above the results "did you mean Web Hosting".

The visitors who spot this message are then diverted the correct results after clicking on that message.
