Default Its googlevideo or video.google.com?

I was trying to find google video, just amazing! I found that " googlevideo.com " is acquired by another person while the correct site of google video is " video.google.com ", interesting, when I checked earlier site it has PR 5, however they have put notice on their site: googlevideo.com is non-commercial, nonprofit, nor is it associated with, endorsed by, in any way the property of, or responsibility of "Google™", I wonder how google missed out to acquire such good domain name.

Ha ha ha the whole world is googling around google. You can prefix or suffix anything around google and it will get higher in ranking in instant. In fact this will not be a bad business. What do you think? You must have noticed that it is just a page with several other links to it. There is no other content, no sitemap or any kind of tags. Interestingly as you said, it is rather surprising to see that how much google is giving importance to it's own name. "Rules are created for others, not for the creator" - anonymus.

Apparently Google registered 'googlevideo.net', 'googlevideo.org', 'googlevideo.info' and 'googlevideo.biz' but 'googlevideo.com' domain was registered in May 2004 by some 'Smith Smithers' and not by Google. I wonder why there hasn't been any Trademark issue on this.

Probably that site owner is awaiting that google will knock his door with civil approach for negotiating a price for that domain name, that might be the reason he has already put a notice there so that it can not be considered an attempt to cybersquatting. Smart guy! What more confusing me his site has only few links- no content but he has ranked well.

What is don't get is how could that guy put up a similar site on a similar kind of domain video.google.com without Google taking any legal action against him for using their Trademark for a similar service?

If you see it’s “googlevideo” and it’s a unique TM, different than google’s “video.google” or any other trademark. So Google can’t do anything about it, except paying the amount. This is the reason the owner of the googlevideo site doesn’t have to develop or to invest. He will get today or tomorrow, what he wants.
Have you ever tried to find out, it's rather time consuming though interesting, how many sites Google owns? There is map.google, code.google, books.google, images.google and God only knows how long will be the list in future.

First of all Googlevideo is not a unique TM, the word 'Google' is a registered Trademark belonging to the company Google. Any domain with the word Google in it being used for a similar service means infringement on the company's Trademark. The practice of registering Trademarked domains and selling them at an inflated price to the Trademark owner is Cybersquatting.

Peter's right. If Google choose to they could take thsi guy to court and probably win - there's plenty of precedent for it. They may make a civil move towards him first but I don't think they'll want to let him name his own price.

After viewing the link given by Paul. I think we can't predict about these things. As I see it is now going out of control. With how many others Google will sue cases. Surely Google or legal people, will have to find some other way to tackle this issue. Google must be in waiting for that. I found another site which says "Google Earth Hacks is not affiliated with Google in any way" this is the link googleearthhacks.com, which is also ranked 5 !
