@imabhas
Thanks for sharing but I can't digest few of your SEO Myths you have mentioned. There are few points which are necessary for effective SEO.

Myth 1: You should submit your URLs to search engines.
That's right. There's no need to submit your domains to search engines. If you have quality backlinks your domain would be indexed automatically which may take some time.

Myth 2: You need a Google Sitemap.
Wrong... It's always better to have updated sitemap for better results.

Myth 3: You need to update your site frequently.
Wrong... Frequently updated websites are given more importance hence try to update your website regularly with fresh unique content.

Myth 4: PPC ads will help/hurt rankings.
It's not true. PPC will never hurt/help your ranking.

Myth 5: Your site will be banned if you ignore Google’s guidelines.
True. If you don't follow Google guideline there are great chances that your website will not perfom well in SERP.

Myth 6: Your site will be banned if you buy links.
May be True.. If you gather huge number of backlinks in short period by paying for them then it may affect you adversely.

Myth 7: H1 (or any header tags) must be used for high rankings.
False... It's recommended to have important keywords in your H1 (or any header tags)

Myth 8: Words in your meta keyword tag have to be used on the page.
True.. It will help you for better SERP but now meta keywords don't have much importance.

Myth 9: SEO copy must be 250 words in length.
Not sure about it.

Myth 10: You need to optimize for the long tail.
False.. It's always advised to target long tailed keywords for better ranking and traffic for your website.

Optimizing website is an ongoing process and should be given utmost priority for better results.

Nice to break the myths, because ultimately they build into future limitations for success.

Thanks for the list and thanks Pongers for the comment on every point. I especially wonder why point 3 is considered a myth. I think updating content frequently is an important part of optimizing your website for search engines.

If you never know when Google makes its crawl you are not going to know which content they are looking at to get the ranks they do. This is why so many people are hesitant when it comes to changing things on their sites.
