Default Email limits and mailman mailing list

I'm new here and trying to understand things.

I understand that there is a limit of 200 emails per hour being sent out on Shared Hosting.

If this is so I presume I can't run a mailman mailing list with more than 200 members - is that correct?

Thanks for any information.

David

To clarify, email limit on Shared plans is 300 emails/hour not 200. You can create multiple mailing lists and have around 250-300 email addresses in one list. In this way you won't exceed the outgoing email limit. Even if you send more than 300 emails in a hour, mails sent after the 300'th one will be in a queue and will be sent in next hour. But its recommended to have different mailing lists rather than sending bulk emails in one go.

Thanks for reply. Yes I meant 300 (not 200).

There is a problem somewhere, so perhaps you could tell me which forum I should use or whether I should raise a ticket.

There are 212 members on the mailing list, 2 messages were sent within a few minutes of each other. On the secoond one I received an email from mailman which stated:
"A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:"
followed by 92 addresses and after each one it stated
"Domain lists.bath-wells.org has exceeded the max emails per hour (300) allowed. Message discarded."

YOu appeared to suggest that they wouldn't be discarded but would be queued.

Also I would have expected there to be 124 (212 x 2 -300) refusals, not 92.

I've made a few phone calls and there are some who haven't received the first posting (i.e. within the 300 limit).

Best way to seek assistance on this will be to initiate a Live chat to get a instant solution.

It seems as though you were not correct about messages being held in a queue. Perry (in live chat) stated that excess messages will be discarded.

That is not good news.

I'm running a website for a charity (which I haven't transferred yet) - only the newslist has been created so far with 212 members.

If some-one posts to the list - OK
If some-one wishes to post a reply to the list - then that makes 424 messages and 124 will be discarded.

Not good news.

I will have to think of a different solution.

Hello David,

Apologies for providing wrong information earlier. You can upgrade onto a VPS in that case. Outgoing email limit on VPS is 500 emails/hour. So none of your emails will be discarded if they are less than 500.
