MSSQL license type

Wanted to know more about the MSSQL license type. Is it processor or CAL based ? What is the difference between the two?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Processor based license is only for the single processor. We can't install the same version with same license key to other processor. But when we consider CAL based, we can install the same license copy on number of Systems.

Shane does that mean if I have a quad core server and I use a CAL license then it won't need multiple licenses ? Sorry I don't have much idea.

CAL license does not have any concern with the number of processors on the server. Therefore, you don't need to purchase multiple CAL licenses if your server has multiple processors.
