For a site some what similar to myspace.com

Will I have to use dedicated server and what specifications please ?

You certainly need dedicated hosting and may be more than one. If you already receive that much traffic then more than one dedicated server will do the job.

Yes if it is an already running website then you will need more than one server. You can use load balancing solution wherin the load is distributed among the servers.

If the website is similar to Myspace, you will have to choose a Load balanced solution which consists of a number of Dedicated servers to host it. Myspace is a social networking website so has all type of content and has many concurrent users due to which the website requires a lot of storage and bandwidth and if you are looking forward to host a similar site, a Load balanced solution is the ideal solution for you.

For a Social Networking website which is similar to myspace.com where you have 30,000 registered users and 3000 users logging in at the same time the ideal solution will be a Load Balancer with high configuration to hold and manage that much of traffic so that the performance of your website doesn't get hampered.

A typical Load Balancing Solution consists of multiple servers which includes 2 Database servers, 2 Web servers and a Load Balancer server, so that the load on your website is well balanced between the web servers and the database is secured. You can increase the number of servers in the architecture as per your requirements.

Is that your current traffic or this is something you are expecting to have once the website is running?

In my opinion, you can consider a cloud hosting platform. A cloud hosting plan in designed in a way to ensure 100% uptime. The cloud hosting framework consists of different servers and one server is always available for balancing the server load. Considering that you are looking at creating a database of 30,000 profiles with more to come ans 3,000 logins in an hour; cloud hosting will ensure that uptime of your website is always guaranteed even in the times of high traffic.

A cluster of servers would be good for you. You can set load balancing which will distribute the load between servers. You can also keep adding servers to this cluster.

The cloud hosting platform is a complete solution and there is no and you don’t have to manually add or manage the servers. You will be provided with full SSH/RDP access. The uptime is guaranteed and smooth functioning of the website even in the times of high traffic. If you carry out a huge number of online transactions through the website, cloud hosting of the most suitable hosting platform for you.

Sorry guys for not replying earlier.

We are building a new website and expect that many members in couple of months. How many dedicated servers are we looking at if we go for load balancing?

If you are looking forward to a Linux Load balanced solution, a typical one consists of 5 Dedicated Servers. This includes 2 Webservers, 2 Database Servers and 1 Load balancer. The number of servers can be increased in future.
