Default vps guaranteed cpu & ram

Hello everyone I am ellen.. I run a small website for myself and now planning to work with a friend in the hosting business. I found this forum while browsing for web hosting stuff. the forum is filled with some very helpful information so i decided to join it

we are not very techie and I would be grateful if sumone can help me with my questions.

Does VPS server comes with its own dedicated resources with a guaranteed equal-share of CPU power and a predefined amount of RAM?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Ellen,

Glad to have you here with us.

Basically, a Managed VPS we use do not have any guaranteed CPU. They do have guaranteed RAM. However, if you are looking for Guaranteed resources like CPU, RAM, you can take a look at our UK Cloud servers. These come with guaranteed resources and can be customized and upgrade as per your requirements:

Virtual servers will never guarantee a fixed CPU allocation as far as I know. it is better to consider a dedicated web server or a Managed cloud server hosting as suggest by rachel. There you get fixed and guaranteed resources and you are also able to increase them at anytime.

Yes, a Cheap Cloud server would be a more suitable solution if you need guaranteed CPU share. Cloud servers are also highly scalable, so you can even increase/decrease the resources at any point of time.

A VPS will never have guaranteed CPU allocation. Yes, it can have guaranteed RAM and burstable RAM. If you are looking for guaranteed resources you can choose a dedicated server or a cloud server as suggested by other members. VPS is ideal solution when you need a server with root access or need a custom software installed. However for serious business website and high resource applications a dedicated server is the best solution.

When a website needs a fixed RAm and CPU, can the customer not select a shared plan? is there a fixed ram and cpu alloted to a shared user or this is only available with a higher plan like a dedicated server ?

Shared servers do not come with fixed resource allocation. But shared servers are huge and you don't really need to worry about the ram and cpu unless your website is very popular. You can upgrade to a Cloud or a dedicated server for fixed CPU and RAM allocation for your websites.

Right, with shared servers you get enough resources. If the Hosting company do not overload their servers then you have enough resources on the server. But if you need fixed resources then cloud or dedicated server is the solution.

Choosing the hosting plan depends upon your hosting requirements. If you have a small website with less number of users then a Shared plan will be good enough to start with. In this case also you have a option to upgrade your hosting plan if your website grows. But if you are expecting huge amount of traffic on your website or want to install any application on the server. Then VPS is the only option to start with.

Cloud servers are a genuine win-win, the vendor passes on reduced overhead through better resource allocation and more densely populated data centres while the consumer enjoys flexible hour-by-hour rental charges on a platform their IT staff will already with and the benefits of rescaling only a few minutes away. For the many businesses still sitting on a depreciating asset as large as their seasonal peak, Cloud servers are ripe fruit waiting to be harvested
