Default Linux Based Server Mirroring

Hello there!!

My web developer has suggested me to take a Linux server mirroring solution. We will be using Linux OS, Centos 5. Honestly, I am not a techie and have no idea of the technical part. Can some one explain to me more about how this will work?

Hello Jones,

Welcome to the community.

To explain in simple words: Server Mirroring involves two servers. One of these servers being the Master server and the other one the Slave server. It is a process of channeling data from the Master server to the Slave server so that an identical copy of data exists on the Slave server. In other words server mirroring can also be described as utilizing a backup server that duplicates all the data of the master server. After the implementation of mirroring, if for any reason, the master server fails, the slave server can immediately take its place without any downtime.

Feel free to post if you have any questions.

Thank you so much. That's a neat explanation.

Your explanation however has made me curious to know more

This will technically involve some configuration as far as I understand it technically. Generally who setups the mirroring on these servers? How much charge will be involved for this type of setup.

We take care of the mirroring server setup. The servers are fully managed by us at no extra cost. There is no additional cost for the setup, you only pay for the two servers that you select.

That is great!!

Sorry another question though

The data on both server can / will be replicated? We update the content once a day. If the main server goes down will the content that we uploaded on it be on secondary server as well? It will have the content we uploaded on the main server am I correct? sorry if the question makes no sense

Yes, data will be replicated. Any file update or change on the master server will be copied and updated on the Slave server as well. The file is immediately transmitted on to the Slave server. This process is completed in a very short period of time and doesn't use up any server resources even if the files which are changed are of larger size.
