You first need to decide the type of web hosting plan you will need with the new host, Cheap Shared server, Virtual server or Managed dedicated server are the most popular ones. Make sure the OS you choose is similar to your existing accounts. However, if your requirements are for a different OS then it is fine other than that you similar OS on both sides are suggested.

You should check the features that the new host provides matches your current hosting account features, like Bandwidth,Space Requirements, requirement for number of sub domains, addons, parked domains, email accounts, databases are some common ones. then there are some server side features and applications that your website may need make sure these are available on new server.

Check the uptime and support the new host offers. Also the modes of support that you generally prefer like phone support. It is important the hosting company has 24/7 support. Where the company is located and the server location is another important aspect. Check if they are not reseller of another company

Speed of the servers is another important aspect. Reliability and uptime of their servers. See if they are willing to help you with the migration. Some companies do not assist with migrations even with similar control panels. Some might charge you some good $$ to get the accounts migrated on their servers.

Backups are another important part when moving to a different host. You should confirm with the new host if they will help you with the migration part or you will have to take care of that yourself. It is important to have a backup copy with yourself in case something does not work on the new server.

If your web hosting activities are not giving you the desired results, then you must surely consider changing your hosting provider. The first thing that you must do while changing the hosting provider is study the aspects in which your web hosting activities are lacking. It maybe the hosting plan, the backup facilities, technical support, security of data or any such aspect that needs to be taken care of. It might also be the case that you need an overall change in your hosting activities. It is also important to consider the reputation and the market standing of the web hosting provider. It may be the case that you might be investing more but then with a reputed web hosting company, you will also get the best services and then you can encash on them in order to grow your business further.

If you are still in doubt, you can always talk to a representative from the web hosting company you would like to switch to. Ultimately you are the site owner and you understand your requirements perfectly; therefore it is important to do a research. It is always good to go with a hosting company that provides a 24*7 technical support so that you can always contact them for any assistance anytime and has a secured data center for preserving your critical data.

You have to be very careful when changing hosts. This requires some planning from your side. If you had a bad experience with your host you should make sure you select the new host carefully. Go through reviews and try their support. These days all hosting companies provide a money back guarantee. Try the server and support in this time. Make sure they provide you with all required featured that your web site needs. Server reliability is very important.

True I agree you should be careful when selecting your new host. There are so many hosting companies available out there and it has become very difficult to choose a reliable host. It is important to check the review of a company. Make sure they have a valid address and phone number. try checking their support at odd times to see if they actually provide you with 24/7 support.
