Default Hosting a game server on UK VPS

Is it possible guys to host games with UK VPS server? I have heard that many are using it. Do you think a UK VPS is actually suitable for it?

Well, if you are looking to go a UK VPS I personally think it is not enough for a game server. UK Dedicated servers are perhaps the best option. Do you know the game you are planning to host on the VPS?

It certainly depends upon the space and Bandwidth it requires, looking into future assumptions, you could rather go in for a Cheap dedicated server package.

Now, I haven't tried running a game server on a UK VPS but I heard from others that it is good to rent a Fully Managed dedicated server. It also depends on what games you are going to host.

Here is what I will recommend

at least 1GHz of CPU
5GB of disk space should be ok
1GB of ram
50GB of bandwidth

The game that you choose will generally have a system requirement page. You can check depending on the game you plan to host on the VPS.

I remember using a game on a Managed VPS. I selected the highest VPS for the purpose though. The game was not a resource consuming one. My suggestion is to start with a Cheap VPS and later if you think it needs more resources then upgrade to a Managed dedicated server.

For best performance you should consider a dedicated server. Although there is no harm starting with a vps and upgrading later. Make sure you have sufficient resources on the server.

Fully Managed Dedicated servers are a ideal choice to host games on it. If you do not have enough money to spend upfront, you can start with Managed Cloud server. You can consider a Cloud server with atleast 1.5 Ghz of CPU and 1 GB of RAM initially and later on upgrade the resources as Cloud servers are highly scalable and its resources can be increased at any point of time. This will indeed turn out to be a better solution than VPS.

Great replies. Do I just consider a semi-dedicated server to start with ? I have done my job and found the game I am going to use isn't going to need more resources. Will it be better than using just a VPS?

A Semi-Dedicated will be absolutely fine then. And you are still able to upgrade to a dedicated server at anytime as the requirements change. To start with a Semi-dedicated server would be fine.

Do let us know in case you have any questions.
