Default MS-SQL database

My website is built is ASP and I have a database which I need to store on the server. Is there a size limit set on the MS-SQL database that can be created in Windows hosting plans. What is the size limit and how many databases can be created ?

Hey Jessie, you can create multiple MSSQL databases on Windows Hosting packages. The size limit is 400 MB for each database on Windows Shared and Windows Reseller plans. The number of databases depend on the package you consider.

The shared plans have a limit of 400 Mb. However, in case you select a higher plan like VPS, semi-dedicated server, the database size limit is 4 GB.

What happens if a user exceeds the 400 Mb database limit on a shared server? Is their account deactivated immediately?

I guess they would send you a notification about this and will recommend you to upgrade the account to VPS or higher packages. If you do not upgrade it, they may suspend the hosting.

If the database is found to be using too much resources, you will be sent a warning email by the techs. In this case, an upgrade to higher plans like VPS, Semi-dedicated etc is suggested.

Shared hosting plan with 400 MB size limit will not suit my needs, as I have a many databases of more than 400 MB. So if I consider a Windows VPS or a Cloud server, can I create database of any size or is there any size limit set on them also ?

There is no database limit set on our VPS / Cloud / Semi-Dedicated / Dedicated server hosting plans. You can create multiple databases of any size till the disk space allows you to do so. Only the MS-SQL Express edition has a default size of 4 GB which is set by Microsoft and cannot be exceeded, other versions of MS-SQL have no such limit set on them. So if you opt for a Windows VPS or a Cloud server with a SQL Express edition, you will have a maximum size limit of 4GB, but if you opt for any other SQL version along with the hosting plan, you will have no database limit.

You said that the limit is only for MSSQL 2005 Express Edition. I checked your plans and you offer MSSQL 2005 Enterprise Edition on Windows hosting packages then why is this limit? It should be only for Express Edition, right?

As mentioned in the previous posts also, there is a database limit of 400 MB that is set on our Shared hosting plans. The limit on the Express edition is applicable on VPS / Cloud / Semi-Dedicated / Dedicated server hosting plans and not on Shared hosting plans.
