Using Shell Access with the cPanel account hosting plan

Is Linux shell access provided, with the cPanel account hosting options?

Thank you for your interest in WebHosting UK services.

We do not provide root ssh access with shared cPanel hosting plans. We provide root ssh access only with VPS/Semi-Dedicated/Dedicated Servers. We can provide you JailShell access with cPanel hosting plan.

Jailshell is a very limited shell that allows clients to login to the server via SSH. It limits the clients to their home directories, keeping the rest of the files on the server from being viewed.

If you wish to sign up for one of our cPanel web hosting plan then during sign up you will need to mention in the comment box that you wish to have your account setup on JailShell access server.

Can JailShell be added at a later date?

Well, if you want to have your account migrated onto JailShell enable server then you will have to get in touch with our tech support staff in this regards but it's better to do your homework and scan your requirements accordingly place order for required hosting package so as to avoid such account migration process

I never understand why ppl what to have shell access even with their small shared / reseller hosting plans though you have very limited access
better i would go with higher hosting plans like VPS or dedicated server where i have total freedom !!!

I use SSH access to edit webpages and Databases.

Some customers prefer to have SSH access for editing or changing permissions or unzipping files.

I was under impression that SSH is only used for server management like script installations, upgrades etc...
