Default Upgrading from VPS to Dedicated Server

Hey just a quick question here.

If I was to sign up for one of your VPS hosting plan and say after few months I need to upgrade to Dedicated Server, will I get any downtime? Because my site would have been popular by that time and I don't need it to be down for a longer time.

The only downtime occurrence would be changing nameservers. You can request the VPS to be terminated after the nameservers have propagated successfully.

The IP will have had to change which involves editing the NS.

We will migrate all your data from the VPS to the Dedicated Server without any downtime. Once all the accounts are migrated on to the dedicated server, we will change the A record of all the domains on the VPS to point to the dedicated server IP so that all the requests for all the domains will be served from the dedicated server and in the mean time you can change the name server IPs at your domain registrar end.

That is great James. I think this might be the unique feature of Web Hosting UK that they offer migration from VPS to Dedicated Server hosting without any migration.

So the only downtime will be the time taken when nameservers are being updated right?

Matt, there won't be any downtime. I think you have not read my last post carefully. I've mentioned the solution which would ensure zero percent downtime.

I worded my post incorrectly which confused you slightly, apologies Matt

What James said is correct, you will be able to change your NS whilst the VPS is still available, your site will still be accessible to all users if their NS hasn't updated which should take around 24 hours.

So you shouldn't face any downtime whatsoever

In short what happens is, the websites keep resolving from either of the servers, so your websites have almost no downtime.

Hope this clarifies it

Thank you James, Dan and Rachel!

You are right Dan, I was merging the 2 different posts and that made me confused. Now it is cleared that while NS are being updated still I won't have any downtime.
