Hi,

Re my request for help this morning.

Instead of a VPS for my webmail program would it be ok to run it on a web hosting account?

Would I be able to get the following:

PHP 4.1.0 or higher. Works with PHP 5
--with-imap, IMAP extensions to PHP (also know as IMAP c-client). Even if you only intend to use POP3 connection with DWmail you MUST meet this requirement.
PHP session support
Sending email support using PHP's mail() or using SMTP (local email accounts only)
At least one POP3 or IMAP4 mail server and email account to use with DWmail
PCRE (Perl Compatible Regular Expressions)
one of the following:
MySQL 3.23.x+
MySQLi 4.0.x, 4.1.x, 5.0.x
PostgreSQL
and ideally Zlib support for generating ZIP files

I'd be grateful for any feedback.

Also, while I'm writing, I have looked through the posts and found several which are a bit disconcerting. One from a user called JennyWren talks about the server times not being set to the UK. I have already noticed that If I refresh pages they come back with different times. Some are correct but most have been one hour behind BST which doen't look too good when you think about it.

Web Hosting UK welcomes you on board!

We do not foresee any problems with you using DWMail. However, this would have to be for your personal use only. If you intend to use it commercially or make it open for use to a community or a town, then you will have to upgrade to a VPS or a Semi dedicated server.

We do not allow more than 200 mails to be sent per hour on our shared servers. If you open DWMail for other users as well, this limit would stand to be breached because of which services to your website would be suspended. So it is in your best interests that we ask you to consider a virtual private server if you plan to open DWMail for other users as well.

Please be welcome to clarify any other apprehensions or queries which may come across your thoughts. We would only be glad to address them.
