Default VPS Hosting transfer fees and OS

We currently have 11 domains hosted with another web hosting company and another 50 or so which are forwarding. I'm trying to find out how much this will cost to recreate on a VPS.

How much does it cost to add new domains?

Anyone got any recommendations on which OS to use (on the Linux VPS)?

hi, doesn't cost anything to add domains if you are referring to moving them across. You can add as many as you want and are only limited by how much web space and bandwidth you have. But if 50 are only pointing to other domains then you won't have a problem anway.

With regards to which os, that's a good question! When i tried to research this I couldn't find a definitive answer so went for Centos. Had no problems with the os for over a year now

Hi Geoff,

If you wish to transfer your domains under our registration then there would be some cost involved for domain transfers. Transfer cost depends on TLD of your domains. You can provide us with list of your domains and one of our billing staff member will let you know cost associated with transfer of all your domains.

If you wish to leave your domains with your existing registrar and simply point those to your new VPS hosting then there won't be any cost to do so.

You should choose CentOS as the OS for your VPS as CentOS is the best Linux OS for those who choose cPanel control panel.

We now have a nice shiny new VPS and I'm trying to get my head around it. Tell me if I have got the procedure right.

I have created an account in WHM and now wish to host some of our domains. At first I thought I created accounts for each domain I wanted to host but found out I only have two IP addresses so I can't do that. Am I right in assuming I can only do that for domains that I transfer?

Anyway, we don't want to do that right now soI have gone into cPanel for the domain we registered when we set up the VPS and chosen Addon Domains. When I set up the new domain I get an error

"Error from park wrapper: Using nameservers with the following IPs: 85.233.160.68,85.233.164.62,85.233.160.69 Sorry, the domain is already pointed to an IP address that does not appear to use DNS servers associated with this server. Please transfer the domain to this servers nameservers or have your administrator add one of its nameservers to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver."

I thought at first that I just altered the domain forwarding at the other ISP but see that won't work. Do I have to change the nameservers for each domain I want to host? Presumably that would affect email so how do I then setup email for the add on domain?

Hi Geoff,

You can create separate cpanel accounts for all your domains. You don't need separate IP for each domain. We host more than 500 websites on our shared servers on a single shared IP address without any problem.

All you need to do is point your domain to the shared IP address of your domain and you can access your website before changing IP using http://I.P-address/~username/

username is the cpanel login name that you choose while creating the cpanel account from WHM. Your websites will start working as desired once you pointt your domains to the main IP of VPS or point nameservers of your domain to the default nameservers of your VPS.

That's great thanks. I've successfully managed to get one of our other domains (isbe2007.org) working. However what happens to email? I thought I would now be able to manage that from cPanel but it doesn't seem to be working. I've set up (geoff at isbe2007.org) to forward to me but nothing happens, not even a bounce.

Also I'm having problems with the domain with which we started the VPS , perlexassociates.org I assume I have to set up an account for this in the same way and I've done that. How do I change the nameservers so that this will work too?
