Question VPS Monitoring

My current provider offers HyperVM monitoring for its VPS packages. This is included in the price and allows me to get email etc if a service goes down. It can be extended to notify the host (yourselves) at extra cost.

What monitoring do you have and is it included in the price or extra?

If nothing is offered, please can you advise on an approved method for monitoring ports and services for downtime notifications?

Hello,

We offer Virtuozzo Power Panel also known as VZPP, its a powerful vps mangement tool. Through VZPP you can Start/Stop/Reboot your vps from your end, manage VPS services and processes, monitor VPS resource utilization, Backup/Restore the vps, SSH Connection, Status Changes, File Manager, alerts, action log, traffic log etc.

Virtuozzo is included in Windows VPS whereas incase of Linux VPS we charge £3 / Month for Virtuozzo.

Please refer the following link for more information on VZPP

Thanks for the reply James - how does the notification aspect of that work if my node, VPS, or a service on the VPS is down?

Power Panel is for real time monitoring of your VPS. It won't send any sort of notifications if any service goes down. If you wish to configure email or SMS notifications for your VPS then you will need to consider some third party monitoring service.

hmm, thats what I thought, but what is recommended? I dont want to end up in a "its down" - "no its not" scenario.

Is there any prospect of offering "in house" monitoring in the future? Perhaps using a hyperVM server or something?

Hi,

Some people use third party ping monitoring services to monitor their uptime but this is far from perfect. Sometimes packets can get lost for a verity of reasons and you could end up with an SMS in the middle of the night for a false alarm.

We are looking at various monitoring software at the moment but we are very much leaning to developing our own. This would be a great asset, especially for our business customers.

So, to conclude, it's being worked on but we have nothing firm in place yet.

Many thanks John. I think I will sit it out and wait to see your offering.
