Default Linux Hosting with SSH access

Hi & Merry Christmas to you all!

I'm thinking of signing up for linux CP hosting platinum package but I need SSH access and would like some written confirmation that I can get it.
I already own 4 domains and will just point them to your servers if that's ok?

ATM I am with Fasthosts but l'm driven nuts by their lack of support, recent security issues and the fact they charge £25 for each mysql database per year on top of the hosting.

So far I'm very impressed by what I've read here and look forward to your replies.

Oscar....

As James said, it's possible to get root SSH access from £20 per month on VPS packages and from £100 per month on Dedicated Server packages.

Oscar, I'll suggest you to go for Semi-Dedicated Hosting, you will get dedicated resources, 1GB Guaranteed RAM and SSH root access with the semi-dedicated hosting account. Compare the Platinum and Semi-Dedicated hosting package and accordingly take the decision.

Hi again and thanks for your replies guys.

The semi and above is to expensive for me but the vps still works out cheaper than what I pay fasthosts.

On this link webhosting.uk.com/vps-hosting.php (Cant post links..) it says £150 for 12 months £75 for 6 months. Is this correct?

If it is I might go for it but if not then it too becomes to expensive for what I need.

Also, the option for Control Panel....what is that about? £5 more!!!!! Why?

Cost of VPS Starter package is £150 for 12 months and £75 for 6 months. cPanel/WHM license cost is not included in the package for cPanel/WHM license you will have to pay additional £5. Cost of cPanel/WHM is £50 for 12 months and £25 for 6 months.

Yes it's included.

It's £25.00 per month for VPS starter plan with cPanel / WHM included.

It's £20.00 for VPS starter plan without a control panel.

I believe everything can be done from shell so you don't actually need Cpanel. It is just that it is a whole lot easier to have a gui like cpanel than it is to use ssh.
There are cheaper alternatives to cpanel, not sure if they have them here though plesk, LXAdmin, etc

Dan, you have mentioned the wrong price.

Cost of VPS Starter without cPanel / WHM = £15 / Month
Cost of VPS Starter with cPanel / WHM = £20 / Month

Thank you for the suggestion Oscar but there are many clients who wants plain VPS they don't need control panel so we have kept it optional. If you need control panel you just need to select it from the drop down menu during signup.

I must be missing something here. I'm no expert when it comes to hosting and my only expience is with shared hosting that comes with a CP.
If you have plain vps and your knowledge of ssh commands is not good then how are you supposed to setup email accounts, ftp access and other normal functions if you don't have the CP.....?
