OK, I am in a hell of a quandry at the moment! Story (so far
I was originally on a shared reseller account with a company that I was happy with. Unfortunately, in the last few months they went downhill, my sites were repeatedly down, at one time for 36 hours!, tech support began taking well over 12 hours to respond, sometimes over 24 hours! With at least one client on the brink of taking her business elsewhere, last week I took the plunge and signed up for a vps with another host (who came recommended). I know others with this host, and none have had problems. OK, so the last few days I have spent transferring my accounts to my new vps. There were some hiccups, but tech support were great and always responded in less than 20 mins. Certain things on the account had not been set up right, they were fixed. However, My sites have been up and down like a yo yo for the last 24 hours. Cut a long story short! At the beginning of the ticket tech support responded quickly and efficiently. However, I get up this morning (4.30am) and the sites are down AGAIN In the meantime I am sitting here twiddling my thumbs - I daren't carry on setting up and transferring accounts in case there is a problem. I am very worried in case the sites go down again and I start losing customers. So, here I am looking at the possibility of a new host I don't WANT to move. I am WORRIED about moving in case I have similar problems yet again. All I want is reliable hosting and good tech support when there are hiccups. So - anybody got any comments? What would YOU do in my situation ---- Jill |

Well WebhostingUK has over six years experience with Webhosting and VPS's, maybe try and get your refund from the host you signed up with and get a package from WHUK

Agreed, Jill if you could provide us with more information such as the current host you are on and exactly what issues you are experiencing we can broadcast this to current members and advise them not to make the same wrong move as you did

Hello Jill,
VPS hosting can become nightmare for a hosting company if done without proper analysis of all possible future problems. We have setup our new VPS nodes in such a way that any sort of hardware problem with the nodes will never result in more than few hours downtime. One cannot avoid downtime when you manage hundreds of servers but having proper policies in place can help you troubleshoot all sort of problems within few minutes or couple of hours. Downtime of over 24 hours is unacceptable and we can never let such thing happen now. Earlier we had some problems which resulted in over 24 hours downtime but now we have solution for all sorts of problems and we can restore any of our downed servers within few hours incase of any hardware or OS problem.

Hi All and thank you for your comments.
No, I can assure you I am not talking about Web Hosting UK Thanks Admin. Yes, I do of course realise that there can be problems and downtime, but of course coming from a bad situation and having sites going down frequently with the new host, well, I kinda got a bit peeved and very worried and jumpy. I started out with Site5 a few years ago. Sadly they are nowhere near as good as they used to be and a number of people have left. I am now with Liquid Web. Nobody else I know who are with them have had problems. They have finally answered my last posts on the ticket, and apologised - problem has gone over several shifts! They also gave me a number I can ring (the one on site is toll-free in USA so I couldn't call it). Sites were down again this morning and I called them. I have to say they were very good and think that they have tracked a problem with memory spike when backup and stats run at the same time, so they have changed the timing for the stats and are now monitoring the memory. TBH I wish I had found this company two weeks ago! I really don't think I could face having to move all my sites yet again, so unless they really don't pull their finger out I reckon I shall stay with them for a bit. However, I shall definitely keep an eye on this company and consider moving in the future. Sorry for posting this here. I just wanted some reassurance from those who are with this company Cheers Jill |

Hi Dan
I think it's just me! I don't think they are a particularly poor host, I've just been unlucky, and probably hit the roof too soon. Coming from problems I was rather jumpy. At least one of my clients was about to leave and I couldn't afford my sites to be down. ---- Jill |

We all understand where you are coming from. It's not nice to loose clients from previous understandings
