can I choose a domain name at a later date for the nameservers on the linux reseller account or does it have to be done straight away?

Yes, you will be able to access your reseller account VIA an IP address. You can later on add a domain pointing to that IP address.

actually what I meant was, I currently have an account with web hosting uk which Im thinking of upgrading to the bronze reseller, and I recall you can set a domain name to act as nameserver (im guessing its simply a redirect thing, and though its a little thing it does look good to clients)
My question concerned whether I can change this at a later date, since I don't really want to use one of the domains I currently own for them, though in the short term I would probably use one if it could be changed later or even if they were still set on redbackinternet that would be fine untill I bought the domain.

Yes, you can use a domain to act as a nameserver such as

ns1.yourdomain.com
ns2.yourdomain.com

Indeed you can change this at a later date.
