Smile Domain names Q?

Hi !!

A question about Domain Names:

When My site is up and running, how many separate Domains can I have from the same hosting package? Are there any usual problems with such things like this I should know about?
Would they be "Subdomains?" For example:

I have a forum with the address: .......linuxforums....?
An address for interest in the viewing and sale of "arty" things .........arts....?
An address involving the Houses of Parliament and the Home Office .........policy....?
....etc, etc.

All of which would be present on the "front page" (portal?) and each site would have it's own addres.

Things are progressing and I've begun learning html from the ground up, and I'm still looking at a December start-date!

Any comments would be welcome.

For it to be a subdomain you would have

arts.linuxforums.com
policy.linuxforums.com

For just folders/pages/sites off your main link you would have

www.linuxforums.com/arts
www.linuxforums.com/policy

You can have as many as you have server space for.

Ok thanks!

Could you please tell me what the major differences are between a subdomain and the folders/pages setup? Please bear in mind that I'm a Novice!

As far as addressess, there isn't one.
For i.e: you can create a subdomain of "linuxforums.com/arts" then it also becomes "arts.linuxforums.com"

You create subdomains from your control panel

I'm not with that, I'll try another way.

Hypothetically, my site is called www.spare.com, and the aspects:

Linuxforum
arts
political
chocolate

......are parts of my site that I would like to have there own unique addresses.

As folder/pages of my site how would these be named?

As subdomains, the same questions please.

How do subdomains and folders/pages differ. It strikes me that as they have different names then their properties should also differ?

Thanks.

Well you would create folders in your web root called: Linuxforum, arts, political, chocolate, which would then have addresses of :
www.spare.com/Linuxforum
www.spare.com/arts
www.spare.com/political
www.spare.com/chocolate

If you also wanted to create subdomains say of 'arts', then you would be able to reach the arts section of your site by going to either of these addresses
www.spare.com/arts or http://arts.spare.com these adddresses take you to the same place on your website.

Basically all you are doing is creating a folder called 'arts' or whatever, putting your content into that folder, then creating a subdomain that gives you another address to use but points to the same arts folder

Ok, that's sinking in a bit.

I think what I may be thinking about is different "Domain Names" and not aspects of the same site.

So it follows: Can I have more than one registered Domain Name (paid for) running from the same hosting package?

Thanks.

Yes, if you look at the hosting plans you need to look at "Addon Domains"

With this company I believe they are unlimited so as many as you want
