I think craigslist is not much useful for getting business rather i would suggest to go with ebay if you want to sell your products.

Craigslist is good for classified ads that work fine to find a date, buy and sell goods and services and lots of other local oriented activities. while eBay concept is little different which is a auction oriented site.

Craigslist is great for making adverts like what Paul mentioned and it has the capacity to pull large amount of online users who refer to the list for any reference.

It is also widely searched by people those are from US but live in UK or other countries, however local is not a small niche, US Market itself is too vast.

Ah I thought that it was essentially classified ads and so targeted at local services. Not living in the US I've never even looked at it.
