Default My very own search engine??

If I wanted to start my very own search engine, where do I need to start? How much money would I need to start my own search engine? Other than money what else do I need? Like equipments, servers and the works.

What type of search engine would be the best to start? Pay Per Click search engines or just a free search engine like yahoo or google? When first starting out would I need employees? If any how many at first?

If there is anyone here who understands these things please give me a good Idea on this OK?

I think it’s very hard to answer your question;
Building a search engine is not as easy as developing a site, initially you have to decide the purpose of your search engine, would it be based on general search or for some specific search;
One of our forum mate “ Manu1991 ” have develop a small search engine songsearcher.coz.in/ for searching mp3 , lyrics or song you can consult him for help or if your are planning to compete Yahoo or Google then you have to hire 100’s of Bill Gates to develop it and would have to invest in billions for hardware....

Actually to start building your own search engine you don't need any special hardware. What you will need is a program that offers some advantage over the existing search engines. If you can come up with an effective new search algorithm then you won't have to worry about hardware because you'll get plenty of VC money or a nice big buyout from one of the big players.

If you are thinking of using existing search technologies tailored to a particular market, which is what Manu1991 is doing with Google, then the requirements are the same as any other Web start-up and are largely dependent upon how many visitors you are getting.

Off the top of my head some basic advice would be:

* identify your market and try to offer something unique;
* keep everything as scalable as possible so follow good engineering practices from the start;
* don't charge anything, people don't like paying for stuff like search, particularly if you are using someone elses technology anyway;
* keep your team small, if you can program then your team could just consist of you.
