Default Do you own any online business?

I personally have never owned an online business but I do plan to own one, much sooner than later, I hope.

Have you ever owned an online business? Do you currently own any online business? If I was to start an online business right now, what type of business do you think I should start? What type of online business do you think would be most productive?

If you use to own an online business what happened to it? What type of business was it? If you do own a business right now what type of business do you own?

I was jumbled with your if's and what's? anyway what i will suggest you, do whatever business you want to do, do it by your heart don’t just invest and sit watching your visitors;
Initially it would be a tough period for you to get into market as you may have to face a nice competition, attract your visitors by offering them discounts/prizes and make them to revisit;

You know better what you are expert in and can do better, so think on it and take decision

All the best.....

Don't get caught up in the idea the 'online business' means Flickr, Google or YouTube. There's a huge market for online applications aimed at traditional business sectors. Here's a free example - I was talking to a friend the other day who manufactures UPVC windows. The software he uses hasn't been updated for about seven years, it is old, slow, clumsy and just about as user-unfriendly as you are likely to get. What he would love is a nice online/offline system that looked good, was more intuitive and was more reliable. OK a system like that isn't going to make you a millionaire but it can be a nice earner.

Talk to people in different industries and find out what they are currently using and then think about how you can leverage the Web to improve it.

Most important thing you should do before thinking about a business is "READ BOOKS".

You need to read some books written by successful people to guide beginners towards success. You are not a born superman to takeoff in this highly competitive world so you need to read and prepare yourself.

Once you have finished reading then sit and analyze your strengths and weak points. It includes your communication skills, technical knowledge, IQ, Patience and many more things which don't click so easily. Try to relate your skills with various things. Lets say that you have good communication skills, good hands on computers and you don't loose patience so easily. If yes then you can start a hosting business as you should face no problem in working on servers and communicating with customers who sometimes get on top of you if their websites or email service goes down.

You can get into programming or development if you have good programming skills.There are many other online business like SEO, Buying and Selling products, Selling Softwares, Selling Templates or Auctioning domains, Designing Themes and many more.

Bit confused

Is online business the same as selling online?

If it is then only ever start a business in something you know a lot about. Reading books on how to start businesses etc is all well and good but you really need a deep rooted knowledge of the items you are selling.

For instance. One of the partners of our knitting yarn internet site has been in the wool trade for over 40 years. If we didn't have someone with her knowledge of yarns we could not answer most of the questions we have from customers and would soon lose those customers.

Just my 2p worth.

you are right Cassie

but, someone who has just managed to finish his education and wants to do something wont have knowledge of any business so he wont be able to start anything. He / She has to read books and learn few more things about successful businessmen and management skills. best option is to get a good job and gain some work experience for few years but books have their importance.

just think if you are capable of writing a book or not ?

now you will know why you should read books as books are written by those who know that they have been successful with what they have written or you can say that they write only once they are successful.

even Kevin will take few more years to write a book on CakePHP.

Actually there's one due out soon - not by me though.

Can't see me writing a book on Cake as I'm sick to death of it. Flex is where the action is now mate.
