Default Google checkout

Got the usual monthly email today from a pc components company, and noticed they were offering 10% discount if you used Google Checkout.
I had never heard of google offering any such service so i had a look.

Must say i am very impressed, why? cos it's free from any charges until 2008 is the main reason.
Oscommerce already have a mod for it so even better.

Downside : Buy it now buttons are not so friendly to use. Unlike paypal where you can simply change option values within the form, you can't with google, so every button has to be made seperately.

It is most certainly worth taking a look at if you offer any kind of payment options and are fed up with the ridiculous charges paypal impose.

I can see many online shopping portals using this in the near future, as once you pay for something using google, you never have to re-enter all your details again, which is annoying if you use many different companies to purchase items online. Nice to have just one checkout that you could use for everything.

I would say it is good offer as they are also giving the buyers- £10 off all orders over £30.

lol. So it means that they spammed most of the online community.. I am quite sure that I never subscribed to their mailing list. It came to my email address which is rarely used used in online form submissions.

I am never going to read a spam no matter even if I am paid to do so. Spam is the first thing any webhosting company would hate.

I quite agree, but i did subcribe to their mailing list along with ccl and misco. I buy fairly frequently from both.

I have had a lot of problems lately with spammers. i had one on a guestbook who decided he was going to manually insert 1 message every day. I had to take it offline for a few days to get rid. He/they were using various ips.

I don't seem to suffer from spam emails. I think pipex filtering is very good in that department, but I also don't show my addresses online, i always use forms for contact and use domain name addresses for anything I am not sure about.

I personally get very few spams this days but we deal with customers who keep on bugging us all the time for volume of spams they get on daily basis.

Thats the main reason we hate spammers so much.

I can understand that, that would annoy me.

Would it be worth either writing a contact form for your clients to use with a simple captcha, and telling them not to display their addy online?
Or
Offering a tutorial for them to create one themselves?

Maybe then at least you could say we told you not to display your addy or simply point them to your tutorial/script.

Just a thought

do you think all customers would be like you ?

many of our customers are from age group of 15 - 20 so you can never stop them from visiting adult sites. People give out their email address easily to download or signup to see hidden contents.

You and me know how to protect our important email address from spammers but others don't know unless they are spammed heavily.

I don't remember ever saying that they were! I am sure it was not intentional, but i found this comment arrogant and condescending!

My point was that spam doesn't only come from porn sites, but from displaying your email address on a website.#Those who freely give out their address on such sites as porn orientated sites, get what they deserve. How can they moan about it whatever their age?

My other point was to simply offer a suggestion, good or bad, a suggestion nonetheless

I think Admin probably meant it as a compliment Jon - as in 'If only all our customers were as sensible as you...'.

Mind you I'm quite offended by the suggestion that people over 20 wouldn't be interested in porn (i.e. sex)...is that because you think we are all past it Admin?

After reading it again I think you are right and must apologise if that is the case.
I seem to forget that typing words as opposed to speaking them are two completely different things, and can be interperated wrongly.

Well.. I realized after posting that construction of my statement was quite wrong. It became arrogant due to incorrect placement of words. I wanted to say that all customers are not so intelligent to understand how to save their email address from reaching in hands of spammers. If we try to teach them then they will say "If we need to do this then why we should pay you for email service ?"

Once again I am apologizing for incorrect statement that made you feel bad.

Probably some people get more aggressive with adult sites after 20 but they know how to save their as* while browsing those websites. I never had any kind of Virus on my computers in last 4 years but one day I allowed one of my friend to use my system for few hours and AVG found more than 3000 Viruses on my machine.

He was trying to hide how he managed to get so many Viruses for me but I was Intelligent enough to make out what he was doing
