Default Intermittent Network Problem

Dear Customers,

Between 15:08 and 15:22 there was an intermittent network problem. Some customers may have experienced problems accessing there websites during this time.

Although the problem has now been resolved, we don't yet have full details. We will update you with further information as we receive it.

Hello,

Yes, thanks. I'm not sure how I spelled it so badly in the topic, but then correctly in the message

Hi,

Thanks for keeping us updated.

However, I have a server monitoring system running at 3 minute intervals which looks at my VPS(s) avaliability. According to my information from that:

One server was offline from (at least) 15.03 and was still unavaliable at 15.24 (at least 21 minutes offline). Another server did go offline at 15.08 (the time you gave) but again I had reports showing it as still being unavaliable at 15.24 (at least 16 minutes offline).
Unfortunately the other two servers I am involved in did not have the monitoring setup at the time (but they do now ).

We worked out the 99.95% uptime guarantee and during a 31 day month this equates to the network or power being down for up to 22.19 minutes.
Just saying

Hello All,

The problem was related to a router in Harbour Exchange dropping BGP sessions. Traffic has been routed via alternate routes for now.

No customers should be experiencing any problems. If you are, please contact technical support.

On another subject, I think that I invented a new word with "internittent".

There could be a forum competition to decide on its exact meaning.

Hello,

Traffic was being routed via different routes. It is possible some ISPs took longer to go over the new routes than others. Personally speaking, it was available at our Leeds office at 15:22, but several clients mentioned that their websites became available several minutes before then.

Hi John,

I'm happy to accept the fact that they may have come online earlier from some locations. However that doesn't quite explain how one server was offline 5 minutes earlier? During the period from 15.03 to 15.08 my server monitoring service (which is hosted in a US DC) attempted two connections (at 15.03 and at 15.06) both of which failed to connect.
So by my count, that still means the network for this particular VPS was down for 19 minutes.
Let us all just hope that there's no more issues like this during the next 19 days.

And just in case it doesn't seem like it, I do think you guys did an excellent job in getting everything back up in under 20 minutes
