Default Auto backup for MySQL database

How do you auto backup your MySQL database? I have been doing it manually without external back up system like Acronis. Can you do it via CRON?

Yeah,
You can set cron for automated backup of your MySQL database;
You can place a ticket at http://support.webhosting.uk.com/ so that our support team will set it for you.

That is fine if you have an account with webhosting.uk . But what if my account is hosted else where. Can I do it on my own?

create a php mysqldump script, then create a cron job to set a time and date when you want the script to run. That is ofcourse dependant on you having the ability to create cron jobs with you hosting provider.

There are pleny of tutorials out there, you should be able to google for them

We had setup a shell script for one of our customer to make separate backup of database daily with date stamp on the mysqldump. I am quite sure that you can do something similar in a php script as well.
