Default Can any one help me with Moving your MySQL database

Hi there,

I'm planning to move one of my web site hosting lock, stock as well as barrel from my old host to my webhosting uk. This will involve moving an MySQL database.
Can any one advise me with the best way how to do this? Is it just a case of backing up my current Database using PhPMyAdmin and then improting it using MyAdmin account?
I've never actually done this before so some advice would be really welcome!

Regards
SILVA

Hi Silva,

If you have decided that the cpanel or the control panel with your old hosting company then the best option is to make a MySQL Server backup from backup section of control panel and then restore it from restore section of your control panel with us. if you dont have cpanel with other hosting company then you will need to download a full backup of database from phpmyadmin and restore it on our server from phpmyadmin.

I must say if you've got access to phpmyadmin on both servers a simple export and import does the job very well - I've used this method many times without any problems.

I think both the above mentioned way work sufficiently well for what you want to do. I think its just a matter of preference where you can find out the there are exact terms where you a person will do find out the best way

Very true, i like to stick closely to ways i know but also try new things to help differentiate but 9 times out of 10 i go back to the ways i know and for this case it would be PhpMyAdmin import export tool, easy to use and very fast.

I'd certainly do a backup of the database from phpmyadmin first. Then if your old host had cpanel i'd get support here to do the copy over for you (especially if you wanted email and other settings copied as well) if that fails for some reason you've always got you backup to rely on

Once, I've moved a forum database from the old hosting, to set up the database as well as the user here, everything was going ok and we too where able to connect to phpmyadmin, and it was working just fine. But as I made some changing in the forum config with the new settings doesn't work. All I am getting on my screen is “Access Denied” for username and many more. The User and password is completely entered, only thing I'm not sure about is the database host. I believe it should be localhost, which I have entered. Can someone shed some light on what's going on here?

Usually user forget small things to change's which are one of the most important stuff of the times, that's why you get such error. Please check if you have assigned the respective to database to the username you have created. If not do the changes so that it will authenticate the database you have with you .
