Default DMOZ is dying ?

Many forums are talking about gaint directory - DMOZ is ending its presence.
Whatever; does any one of you have ever benefited by this great directory ?

Your site would benefit from DMOZ only after getting listed in it. At the moment it seems almost impossible to get a site listed in DMOZ. So probably that maybe the reason people in many forums are discussing the end of DMOZ.

Sad to see it tailing off but DMOZ relies on volunteers. Just a guess but I'd bet that they just can't get enough site reviewers.

Yahoo may find it very profitable to buy DMOZ if they get their hands on it and also it will be good in terms of
competition with others as the open directory project works quite well.

Hmm Nice suggestion Chris, but who will tell Yahoo

I think Yahoo itself is trying to save himself by finishing of the target,

it has set for himself, before the Q3 in the next year.

It's quite doubtable though

I wonder whether Yahoo really know what it is doing most of the time these days. There was a leaked memo from a senior board member recently that basically said the same thing.

Yahoo should take some immediate measures to be in the race with their competitors or else the day is not too far where they will
loose their ground with other giants around it ready to take charge.

Yahoo Management is a great example of mismanagement.

They don't seem to be interested in improving their business or taking Yahoo on a better position any further.

Once a river stops flowing then its definitely going to loose its existence as water has to evaporate. Same thing applies on success of online business.

That's true.
Good to see that Yahoo is atleast leading in that particular(mismanagement) aspect so that others do not follow their footsteps.

Lack of direction seem to be a feature of the top IT companies. Just my personal opinion but Google seem to have no clear direction, Microsoft is stifled by top heavy control processes, Apple has no ambition and depends on the strength of character of one man far too much, Sun has always lurched from one crisis to another, Novell, Red Hat and the other big Linux names can't find a business plan for the home market, HP wants to be Dell, Dell wants to be IBM but can't innovate and IBM...seems pretty sorted.

Tell me who is not lacking the direction. Instead of focusing on the negative things, it is better to see the half glass filled with water.

Alex you seem to be pretty optimistic on that one. I think every other IT company wants to be better than the one which is better than them and many fail to do that. Every company should have their definite motto which they should follow in order to achieve perfection.

This companies have reached a position where money comes their way no matter if they manage or mismanage. We should focus their position coz once we reach there then we will get a chance to prove our management skills

Don't see why I should look for good news stories about companies that have billion dollar revenue streams, I'm sure their directors won't lose any sleep when they are cuddling up to their huge bonus cheques.
