Default Differentiation between security software and software security

What should be the basic differentiation between security software and software security?

If I had to guess I'd say that;

security software is any application which offers to provide a layer of security running along side or on-top-of other software e.g. anti-virus or firewall software; while

software security is a process involving the hardening of a single application against malicious use e.g. a Web app might implement an access control list for users while a desktop app might implement a complex registration algorithm to prevent piracy.

I would like to add a bit more to differentiate both.
Security Software is the program that doesn’t allow access to computer or data and files on a computer. Example given by Kev are the best examples of this.
And Computer security is the attempt to build a safe computing platform, designed so that users or programs can only execute commands that have been permitted. This involves identifying and applying a security policy. The events in question can be condensed to operations of access, deletion and modification. Computer security can be perceive as a subfield of security engineering, which take care of major security issues in addition to computer security.

I would agree but Paul did say software security which to my mind implies something application specific. If you have an OS which allows you to implement a security policy, such as user permissions, across the whole platform (using daemons or their equivalent presumably) then I'd argue that the sub-systems responsible for this are acting as security software.

I think software security is about software engineering and programming while security software is about security service for example like access control and encryption, hence the features of security software can not be exploited easily as security software is subset of the set of secure software.

Its very simple for me to differentiate.

security software = A software for security of system, OS, Network or anything that depends on networking.

Software Security = Security of the software which you have designed or purchased. Software Security would take care of keeping the software in good shape in long run.
