The hackers are changing their hacking strategy by shifting from attacking the computers to attack electronic transactions at :L security.itworld.com/4337/061103securitythreat/page_1.html

That means net users or electronic transactions needs to be handled in a more secured way. You can't be lethargic while making any kind of electronic transaction, wether it would be cellphone, pc, atm, debit card, credit card or any kind of transaction in which finance is involved. No doubt there are other companies working on the secure transaction. But what about those, which don't bother about their brand. I think these are the companies which will be targeted by the hackers. So one needs to be careful while dealing with lower brand companies. It applies for all kind of companies - it can be a shoe company, or any web hosting company or any kind of customer too.

This might be true to some extent. Sometimes I feel that this is one of the marketing strategies used by the companies that provide various kinds of online security for users as well as for machines. More interestingly these firms do not have a 100% secure software or technique. They themselves accept this fact that even by using their advanced software’s this kind of security issues cannot be completely stopped. IMO Marketing is the major focus in such updates.

You certainly have a point Rodney - spread enough FUD around and the security companies can sit back and rake in the cash.

Obviously people need to be aware of online security but IMNSHO the hype surrounding it has been out of all proportion in the UK recently.

Both the market and competition that push particular software to that vulnerable area as people want new features and easy interface, I think the electronic transaction require investigation and analysis in multiple disciplines.
