This might be true to some extent. Sometimes I feel that this is one of the marketing strategies used by the companies that provide various kinds of online security for users as well as for machines. More interestingly these firms do not have a 100% secure software or technique. They themselves accept this fact that even by using their advanced software’s this kind of security issues cannot be completely stopped. IMO Marketing is the major focus in such updates.

You certainly have a point Rodney - spread enough FUD around and the security companies can sit back and rake in the cash.
Obviously people need to be aware of online security but IMNSHO the hype surrounding it has been out of all proportion in the UK recently.

Both the market and competition that push particular software to that vulnerable area as people want new features and easy interface, I think the electronic transaction require investigation and analysis in multiple disciplines.
