For myself I'm not sure I could manage without email.
With emai I can send and recieve large amount of detailed information which can be read at leisure. Plus I can store emails for later reference. The stuff I send be email now is still the stuff I would have sent by fax or snail mail 10 years ago and I can't think of anything that would replace it. There are loads of advantages to using good old POP/SMTP. And if the Web collapsed tomorrow under the weight of social networking sites, e-commerce and yet another blog about someone whose life is even more dull than mine, at least email would still keep chugging along.

I don't think e-mail is going to be replaced in the future. Although with the emergence of new methods of communication and marketing like IM, Skype, blog etc and rampant use of email for spamming, the use of email has reduced but I think Email will remain one of the most affordable methods of acquiring and retaining customers.
